the fine-uhl things

"Everything you see, I owe to spaghetti." - Sophia Loren

very stressed about school. How can there be multiple finals?

fi·nal

[fahyn-l]
–adjective
1.
pertaining to or coming at the end; last in place, order, or time: the final meeting of the year.
2.
ultimate: The final goal is world peace.
3.
conclusive or decisive: a final decision.

Therefore, wouldn't the idea be that you do one and done. but no. we all have an average of a whopping FIVE finals. so technically you're done five times but the last one is the only one that will make you breathe a sigh of relief.

I am currently working on memorizing a monologue from Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew". For those of you who aren't familiar, this is the play that the film"Ten things I hate about you" is based on. My character tricks her husband into thinking she has become a submissive housewife just to get him into bed. Mayjah.

I also am working on a paper about how hard it is to plant a tree in the city. That is messed up.

So late nineties.
Elizabeth Taylor also starts in a version of "..Shrew". Did you know she has naturally purple eyes?
Speaking of old time beauties, we recently watched a film in my Italian class starring Sophia Loren

Trends never fade
here's her co-star

and how even he has inspired style
I love the purple and green accents
Not in the barney sort of way though.
And on another note that reminds me of my childhood, my kitty Rita just had to be put to sleep. She was 13 years old. I will miss her dearly.
She was black and white like a fat cow. I on the other hand will be wearing only all black to mourn =[
But cheer up guys! I will soon feel better.

weakened by the weekend

"I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour, but heaven knows I'm miserable now."
  - Morrissey

May I just say that my university is not correct in assuming that giving us "study days" and canceling class Thursday and Friday will help us do any better on our finals next week. We just use it as an excuse to start the weekend early. And indeed I did. So since we started the party on Wednesday night, me and a few friends all settled for the more relaxing option of a movie night last night. Needless to say we got bored. I mean there's only so many times you can watch " The Big Lebowski". Just kidding, I've actually never seen it so I should have taken advantage of it. But instead we decided to put on some music, invite a few more people over, you know turn it into one of those cool relaxed, unexpected parties where you have way more fun anyway because you didn't have to stress over what outfit you wanted to wear. I CANNOT wait to get my camera from home and start documenting my life on here because last night was so unexpectedly fun I wish I had proof of it besides my good word.

Hhhmm what happened before Saturday night? Margarita Miercoles was quite fun, although I had an impromptu outfit change right before we went. I actually wore flower leggings and a flower in my hair and just a black blazer. I even added mauve lips and a fake mole. So Latin-inspired I was!

On Thursday we went to this restaurant called Nara and stayed pretty late. The outfit for that night was slightly inspired by Rihanna in her new video for "What's my name". I am obsessed with her style and especially in that video! So she wears every kind of jewelery imaginable and a striped blazer with a plain black tank. I had to improvise and wear a black blazer with a striped tank underneath. I also love all the colors she wears so i threw in some acid wash denim and multicolored costume jewels. I also was inspired by her socks! every little detail counts. So I finally fulfilled my dream of wearing socks with heels.

Friday was a fun night for outfitting, but not so much the night life. I feel like Ke$ha in my striped mini, ripped fishnets and combat boots. of course, too much jewelery. We exchanged secret santa gifts and I got this awesome shirt from a brand I didn't even know existed! I got my roomie some kewl jewels and a belt. My friend bought this sparkly nail polish and everyone used it. I have to agree its pretty fabulous.

THIS IS THE SHIRT ! look down
With a blazer and leggings. Very nice. Unisex!

Here's a task for the end. Buy (cheap!) white canvas sneakers and stud them yourself with those gold tacks that fold down on both sides! I will be trying this. Pictures soon! Also my friend is starting a blog about how to make things she can't afford to buy so when that happens I will post the link and be following her!
here's what the idea should look like
all that from this...
for half the price of Tom's!
Good luck guys!

viva la vida

hey yall.
so tonight is Margarita Miercoles (Wednesday) at my friends apartment!  I don't really have Mexican inspired pieces to wear, so my inspiration is coming from a film.

What film you ask? Why the Oscar-worthy Sex and the City Movie! Remember the scene where Carrie is all depressed because she booked a honeymoon for the man that stood her up? Well the honeymoon is in, where else? MEXICO and all of the girls go with her to make her feel better. I usually think Samantha is a bit too much, but the combination she wears of yellow, black, white and turquoise made me fall in love!

I will be a tad less loud, but will have a margarita in hand.

curb your enthusiasm, please

"What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make."
- Jane Goodall

So I'm out on the open road. Well not really, I'm in a Best Western with roomie Sarah and friend Lauren. We ate at t.g.i.Friday's and it was a splendidly mediocre meal. =] I like all of the fashion around these here parts (insert country accent here). It was three peoples birthdays at the restaurant, if they weren't all lying as we were planning to do. Some group was dressed up, while another group was a bit more punk rock. Then there were these two older women in my peripherals with denim jackets with colorful patches on them, dark lipstick, and nineties style platforms. It's fun to see how the area you live in affects your style. It makes me think of the movie "Napoleon Dynamite" and how it was set in present time yet all of the characters dressed as if it were 1984. I suppose not everyone is exposed tot he same idea of what is "trendy" and acceptable as fashionable. But to each their own right?

So I'm going to bed soon because we have to wake up bright and early to either make it to our hiking trail destination  by sunrise or eat the free complimentary breakfast this hotel offers from 7-10. I'd rather eat, of course.I somehow managed to think of stylish hiking outfits, but I was thinking of comfort when i picked out floral leggings, I swear.

Also, I am breaking out my furry hat for the first time this season!
I read an article in Elle that discussed a DJ from England who likes the wear floral leggings with her tough timberland boots. I just happen to be trying this look while hiking.

So the hotel room window has very sheer curtains and it is sort of creepy. I hope i can sleep well so we can film and not be cranky tomorrow.

This is where we will be ...

How can we be cranky with this view?
The Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania
Sarah told me that there's this phenomenon where people have a strange urge to jump off!
I think I will be too happy/amazed to want to jump to my possible death

I want to leave you with a task.

Although we are doing this for a friends assignment, think about going on a road trip, with a few choice friends (this is not spring break) and bring a camera to film the entire time! It's going to be so fun to watch the footage at the end of this weekend so i suggest you try the same

is it any wonder that I'm tired?

"I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day"
-Vincent Van Gogh

This evening I am performing "Sunday Morning" by Maroon Five at a talent competition. It should be fun and hopefully a stress reliever. I haven't had that much school work to do but I'm waiting for it all to pile up next week. Also i cannot find my camera so i can't fully express myself on here yet. what else? hhmm i feel very unstimulated lately. I can't seem to find a hobby i enjoy as much as blogging. I need more to do if that's possible in college. When this talent show is over i might die of boredom.
This weekend I am going to "the grand canyon of Pennsylvania" and other attractions to help my roomie film for a project. It should be exciting to fit in my Timberland boots into my wardrobe in a  fashionable way. I have to admit i sort of hate nature. Besides the first minute of awe and amazement i get kind of bored of the sites but that is why i NEED to find my camera because photography will make me more apt to enjoy the scenery.

Current obsessions
..

leaf-less trees, they just look so much bolder against a bright blue or even gray sky.

listening to other people's conversations and trying to figure out what the nonsensical tid-bits mean.

observing how elevators are the source for the most awkward moments in life

admiring people who have the guts to eat alone

mexican and asian food

is it wrong to love army inspired clothes but not support the war?

collages made of magazine cut-outs

sleep

mixing vanilla and hazelnut coffee

horror flicks

nicki minaj

new year's eve plans (outfit, location, pressure to have fun)

So here;s my outfit for the Talent Show this evening, de-structured into multiple photographs each representing one piece of clothing.

Mustard pants
& Blazer

Black bow on white shirt

& finally white saddle shoes (plus i like this picture if you refer back to my bare tree obsession)

black & pink friday

So everyone (who doesn't know me anonymously) knows i love my food, but this blog is for the ultimate fashionista, so i must talk about BLACK FRIDAY!

So after i barely napped after my food induced coma on Thanksgiving, i woke up at 5 am and headed to center city with my mommy & my fellow fashionista bff.
Urban Outfitters was having a half off sale even in their sale section!
I couldn't even bring myself to like something that is over 20 dollars, but i got really cool stuff for my budget!

I'm really digging military inspired looks so of course i needed army boots, cargos & an army green jacket. Yes I've picked that over a new trench coat.

I cant wait to try all these looks out! especially heels with my cargos for a tough girly girl vibe.

I also purchased a British flag tee to add a more punk feel to any outfit.

Not quite like this..
 (MY FAVE SPICE GIRL!)

But more like this...

A little bit more laid back.

So this is the bad girl portion of the items i purchased, but i also bought some sweet, mod mustard colored pants. I cant wait to wear them with a cutoff sleeve tee and if i have the guts, a pixie a la Twiggy. Or Audrey here

Although these styles are very different, they have the theme of past times in common. It kind of makes me wonder what defines the 2000s era of fashion? I believe it is taking all past eras and revamping them for today's youth culture. So you might see someone wearing different pieces from all different eras, with layered chains or multiple rings on, something that started with us.

But perhaps there are certain icons that describe today's no rules, do what you want fashion styles.
Think Nicki Minaj. Although not everyone would wear this stuff, she makes fashion worth staring at.
She wore a number straight off the runway, something most bazillionares wouldn't dare try.

I have to admit  i am not this daring. So lets get back to the more demure pieces i purchased.

Army jacket, skinny acid wash jeggings, black silver detail leggings and a woven gray bag.
I can try this look, can't wait!

i love this look! it is so effortlessly chic! right down to the shades.

I have to admit i miss summer, but who says you cant wear sunglasses in the cold weather? There's still a glare right?
I just found this new blog/fashion website and im obsessed!
She finds vintage pieces in thrift stores and sells them all for under 20 dollars! genius!
I want these!

This, like everything in fashion, brings us back full circle to my point about recreating classic fashion from past eras for today's culture. These are ultra mod.

I leave you with a task.
Mix together sweats, a blazer and a fancy shoe, perhaps even a heel? Everyone owns these pieces, but never mixes them! Try it!

Good luck yall!
